In Sommerset Engineering, we have certified project managers who, with their theoretical and practical project experience, can carry out projects with a high focus on deliveries, schedule and costs to the customer's expectations.

Successful implementation of a project depends to a large extent on the competencies of the entire project team, especially the project manager. Project management is an independent discipline on the same level as engineering science, and with us we recognize that a project manager not only has technical insight, but also commercial, contractual and organizational understanding. In collaboration with the customer and based on the specific project, we put together the optimal project team based on the current schedule and investment.

We help in all phases of the project. From the early project start to the final commissioning with project management, project execution, planning and financial management.

Project Management

Our project managers know the “nature” of the project work and focus on the fact that a project has a specific start and end date. During the project, the project manager reports to the steering group. We agree on the reporting level with you at the start of the project, but typically the reporting takes place monthly and includes status of progress, finances, hourly consumption, purchases and possibly obstacles.

Our project managers ensure that the project stays on track and that the required initiatives are implemented throughout the project.

Planning & Coordination

Together with the project team, our project managers identify and describe the activities required to be able to perform a task on a project. We time estimate all tasks by gathering relevant stakeholders in the project and get their bid on the order and duration of the activities. We gather the information in the schedule tool that we have chosen together for the project, so that you get an overview of the scope, time and finances of the tasks to be performed.

A well-executed schedule contributes significantly to efficient project execution by:

  • Keep track of activities and progress
  • Keep track of milestones

  • Ensure optimal allocation of resources
determine the critical path (the shortest possible time to complete a project or phase)

  • potentially minimizing project execution time (“time is money”)

Engineering Management

Project execution is the script for the project, and we prepare the project execution plan for projects of a certain nature, where we describe the project in detail. The document serves as the project manager's guideline for how the project is to be carried out. In the plan, we describe all elements of the project such as. priorities, schedule, participants and security.

The project execution plan adapts to the changes that may occur in a project. It is thus a dynamic tool that we always share with you and are approved by you.

Financial management

The project sponsor supports the project manager role in the matrix organization by giving the project manager the cross-functional authority for budgeting and managing the project finances (CapEx.).

Our project managers estimate (+/- 10 to 20%) and budget the project finances in all phases of the project according to agreed categorization and level of detail. The financial management during the project execution we check according to the principles approved budget, committed budget, costs to implement and estimated cost of completion.

In collaboration, the project sponsor and our project managers agree on the interval for reporting the project's finances, which includes:

  • Budget update regarding. additional order
  • Financial summary per categorization

  • Reason for deviations

  • Corrective actions regarding deviations

  • Payment overview for liquidity budget
